Thank you for the article. It made me think that Zazas are actually being recognized as an ethnic group. As a zaza who was born and has grown up in Turkey, I know first hand that being a Zaza is a sin in Turkey. Just like being a Kurd or any other ethnic group other than Turk for that matter is considered sin in Turkey. I remember my friends being punished in elementary school because they spoke in Zazaki once. As far as religious preference goes, I have already made my choice and I believe I have found the truth. But, boy, I gotta tell you this, no matter what religion you are, as long as you belong to other ethnic group in Turkey you are in trouble. Because there is no regard to inalienable rights of people in this country. Corrupt army and government ruled for a long time. I hope they learn a thing or two from the West. Thank you.

Great article. Also thanks Rebecca for the great ways to love Zazas in practical ways. It is not our hope to take away the religion of the Zazas. But we hope they will realize how much the Lord loves them and that Jesus has invited them as special, honored guests. We are praying for Zazas on our new website pray4zaza.com.

The first part of this article is good. The last part, about converting the indigenous Zaza to Christianity is sick. I am married to a Zaza man, who's mother tongue is Zazaki. Why do you seek to now take away their religion after everything else has been taken from them? The Turkish government has been eradicating their ways of life throughout the 20th century. The Zaza people are subsistence farmers, who can't even graze cattle in the mountains anymore because of the PKK terrorist cells in the mountains. If you want to do something good for these people, buy them cows so they can have milk, yogurt, cheese and meat. Start a school so girls can learn to read and write. Start a sustainable business so they can become part of the economy. Buy the kids some toys, they are so poor the children never even have toys. Help to end the discrimination of the Zaza people when they attempt to integrate into mainstream Turkish life. These people already know how to pray. Do something useful.
