Most Used WordPress Plugins

Over the last few years I found the following plugins most helpful on this site:

  • Akismet (by Automattic): Comes bundled with WordPress, Akismet blocks 99.9% of sp@m and you can ask it to automatically clean out your sp@m list monthly.
  • Broken Links Checker (by Janis Elsts): I only activate this occasionally to check for broken video links, and it works well.
  • Google XML Sitemaps (by Arne Brachhold): This plugin generates an XML sitemap to help Google, Yahoo, Bing and Ask.com to better index the site.
  • Greg’s Comment Length Limiter (by Greg Mulhauser): Long comments are unreadable and unhelpful, but I can limit them using this plugin.
  • Jetpack (by WordPress.com). Does a whole host of helpful functions with more being added every few months.
  • WordPress SEO by Yoast, All in One SEO, Headspace2, etc.: SEO (Search Engine Optimization) plugins so you can add custom Document Titles, custom Post/Page Meta Descriptions and so forth.
  • (Move Comments) [Deactivated until it’s needed. This by Apostolos Dountsis works well]: Sometimes I move posts and want to move the comments too…
  • RefTagger (Transform Bible references into links by Logos Bible Software): RefTagger supports all of the Bible book names and their standard abbreviations. Hover over Genesis 1:1 to see it in action.
  • Widget Logic (by Alan Trewartha): Brilliant, lets me put different Sidebar content (widgets) on different posts, pages, home, whatever I need and want.
  • WordPress Exploit Scanner (by Donncha O Caoimh): My site got hacked a few times, but to be honest, of all the “AntiVirus”-type plugins, I’m not sure which ones work the best.
  • Caching plugin: most hosting companies have their own caching as well and it is a good idea to ask them for their recommendations.

Plus a few others which are site-related. A good, up-to-date list of WordPress Plugins, tips and recommendations is here →

  1. Roseanna Tronaas says:

Dont quit running a blog now, I’ll be again for more of it, simply had had to say thanks again!

  2. I would say the same but of course this isnt the case… another thing: what would people do if I won 2 million usd?

  3. Hi, Neat post. There is an issue together with your site in internet explorer, may test this… IE nonetheless is the market chief and a good part of other people will miss your magnificent writing because of this problem.
